Quote from harjun :thanks skinny...if you add me on msn [email protected] can tell you it all from there and stuff...but, if you dont here it is

AMD Turion 64 X L2 1GB Cache
ATI Radeon Express up to 258 memory
896Gb of RAM...
My computer always runs cool...so i doubt it will be a problem, if it is, ill just wack a few ice packs on it, or shove a fan in front of it ofr something

hmm you want to overclock a laptop?
with 1GB cache?
and 896 GBs of Memory?
and with a VGA which has upto 258 memory?

I'll give you a valuable advice for free...

Just leave your poor notebook as is, I mean if you want to still have a notebook tomorrow.

It's the shifter when it's not used in sequential mode.

About your query these are two similar threads
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=19011
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=18994

And here is the short explanation http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=328948#post328948

Unfortunately you can't use the shifter in single seater cars

Yes, the 7600GT is the perfect match for your processor imo.

some clarification about it...
The processor and the graphics card should match each other in horse power.
If the one is far superior than the other the slower one will hold down the faster.
This is often called as "bottleneck".
So in your case the 9600 is holding down the P4 3GHz, but the 7600GT is the perfect match for it.

Yes probably you have an Intel CPU with HyperThreading which reports as 2 CPUs in the operating system but it's actually 1 core. But this doesn't matter because most games (LFS included) do not utilize the second CPU.

The memory is just fine for the majority of the games but actually it depends on the operating system you have. If you have Windows XP it's plenty, if you have Vista you need almost twice.

Your GFX card it's quite old and cannot cope with the recent games but it's more than enough for LFS.

So, since you are not interest in benchmarks, latest games and trends, your PC is a very good one and it can serve you well for most tasks, specially for LFS.

Quote from amp88 :Well, the point is that since hosts can alter it to whatever value they wish it varies from server to server. Some set it to 0, some to 60 seconds, some to 90 seconds etc. The only way at the moment to know when you can vote is to arbitrarily try voting at different time periods.

+1
It sounds simple but actually it's a very nice improvement.

I have two queries for the owners of this game

The F1 tracks are included? (Suzuka, Monza, Indianapolis etc)

Is there an F1-like car available?

Yes AutoHotkey http://www.autohotkey.com/ is just for the job

I've been using it quite a long time and works great with LFS and other progrs.

The command you are after is called "Send" http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands/Send.htm
eg everytime you press the joystick button 4 F9 is pressed, everytime you press joystick button 5 F10 is pressed and so on.

Here's a script in its simplest form

joy4::
Send {F9}
return

joy5::
Send {F10}
return

Quote from Nick A :
... the real question is: is there a limit to the number of unlocked copies of LFS you can have?

No, there is no limit
An installation you unlock remains unlocked.
This means that if you unlock a different copy each week you could end up with 52 installations
-all unlocked and fully functional- per year.

Launch LFS and goto Options>Controls.

Click on the "Wheel/JS" button then on the "Axes/FF" buttton.
Make sure the "Calibration Lock" option is set to "NO" and then click on "Recalibrate Axes".

Then steer your wheel from end to end and fully press and release the pedals.

Probably that should fix the problem.

LFS is not GPU demanding. It is CPU demanding mostly.

So going on this powerful card just for LFS is not worth it.

You can have 1280x1024 with all options to full + 8AA + 16AF with a GeForce 6800GT class card and above and running at 80 fps average.

As a matter of fact the biggest difference in LFS graphics is produced by the AA+AF filtering.

It works, there's no doubt about it so my guess is that you are doing something wrong probably due to the renaming of the AIs. Spaces and colors in names can be tricky if you are not careful.

And yes the option "AI use player colours" has no effect on this, see post #14.

PS
The procedure I describe in post #12 is slighlty different with patch X, because Scawen implemented a new more intuitive approach on selecting skins.
The right step by step procedure for patch X is this.

1. Make sure you are using the default AI names for now.
2. Go to Garage.
3. Click on the "New Colours" button.
4. Select a skin from the skin-list that pops up.
5. Now you see that a new colour scheme has been created after the name of the skin.
6. Click on the "Rename" button (located below the "New Colours" button).
7. In the box that pops up write AI 1

Repeat these steps for AI 2, AI 3, ... AI 20. Just replace the AI 1 name at step 7 with the new one.

For your convenience I suggest to press that "New Colours" button one more time and create a new profile named MySkin or something and use this for your player.

I don't know if you have made a typo, but the latest version is X not W and it is multiplayer incompatible with W. Just in case you are wondering where all the racers went

About the mouse problem, have you clicked on the "mouse/kb" button in Options>Controls (top left) to tell LFS you are driving with the mouse and not with a wheel?

In the same page there are the button assignements.
Make sure you have assigned the "accelerate" function to the key/button you want.

Quote from HeerBommel :Yes indeed, and it would be nice the next time you start LFS that the AI remember their last used skins.....

What do you mean about that?
They already do that.

I see you are quite long with LFS, but just in case you are doing something wrong this is the right way to give the AIs their own skins permanently. http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=12381

Congratualtions for your addon FL!P

Special mention should be noted for the easy installation of your addon, the customizable hotkeys and the preservation of user's custom cameras. Amazingly user friendly indeed.

I have always been using custom cameras for some cars and your solution is fantastic. It saved me lots of time from manually switching values all the time.

Well Done

tbh, don't bother at all.

Wait 1-2 days for patch X to come out and then use that (it will be like W40 with a couple of bug fixes so it will work fine in your case).

Two possible causes just in case...
Do you have the power in your MOMO plugged?
Is the Force Feedback setting set to YES in LFS controller settings?

If you still want to use W for some reason, better download a fresh W archive and copy your settings from your U30 installation to it.

50% is my highest attempt not only with G25 but also with my previous wheel the Thrustmaster Rally.

Most of the time I keep it around 30 depending on the car and setup (the caster setting mostly).

I don't think that there is anything wrong with your wheel.

I'm amazed with the ff of 100 and more some people use, cause then the wheel feels like a brick and it has very rough responses.

You don't have a very strong CPU anyway, so going for a very good graphics card isn't mandatory.

Get a GeForce 6600 card (AGP bus) for 40-50 euros tops and another 256 megs of memory for 15-20 euros.

So in total you'll spend 60-70 euros and you'll have a very nice upgrade.
